Architecture and design

Architecture and design are scientific fields whose main objective is to create a comfortable environment for people to live in. Architectural design, which emerged at the intersection of architecture and design, combines traditional tools and innovative methods of architecture and design to address the functional, aesthetic, and environmental challenges of shaping the environment.

Introduction to architectural and design composition and combinatorial design

Architecture and design of creative public micro- and mesospaces

Architecture and design of the material and spatial environment

Basics of landscape design

The program «Introduction to Architectural and Design Composition and Combinatorial Design» includes:

  • familiarization with the basic methods of solving technical (engineering) and creative problems in the field of architecture and design;

  • acquiring the skills to create creative work based on computer visualization methods;
  • mastering the principles and methods of developing scientific and creative projects within the chosen topic.

Architecture and Design of Creative Public Spaces is an innovative field of scientific, project, and creative activity in the field of architecture and design, where scientific and technical knowledge is integrated into the creative process of the comprehensive formation of creative spaces.

Creative spaces is a newly formed group in the typology of public spaces.

The program «Architecture and Design of Creative Public Micro- and Mesospace» involves:

  • familiarization with the general trends in the development of modern architecture, urban planning, and design;
  • studying the impact of new technologies and materials on the process of modern architectural and design form formation;
  • familiarization with the basic methods of solving technical (engineering) and creative problems in the field of architecture and design;
  • studying the basics of architectural, architectural-design, and design-based comprehensive design of creative public micro- and meso-spaces, including computer-based design;
  • practical development of skills and abilities to depict and convey materiality, volume, and spatiality using various graphic techniques;
  • familiarization with the basic methods of graphic representation of the transformation of a natural form into an associative model of an architectural or design object;
  • mastering practical methods and techniques of architectural and design layout and modeling, and structural combinatorics;
  • studying the basics of using modern means and techniques of architectural design;
  • acquiring the skills and abilities to create creative work based on computer visualization methods;
  • mastering the principles and methods of developing scientific and creative projects within the chosen topic based on the strategy of “creativity as an innovative method of the design and thinking process”.

Architecture and design of the material and spatial environment are aimed at creating a comfortable environment in which all the life processes of society and individuals take place: work, everyday life, culture, communication, recreation, etc. In this case, the objects of design activity are material and tangible systems. The units of design are objects of the material and spatial environment, such as individual products and complexes of cultural, household, economic, transport, industrial, scientific, technical, medical, and socio-cultural purposes, as well as the organization and equipment of fragments of the human habitat.

Object-spatial environment design, which emerged at the intersection of architecture, design, industrial production, and the national economy, comprehensively uses traditional means and innovative methods of design activity to solve functional, ergonomic, aesthetic, and environmental problems in the formation of the material and spatial environment.

The «Architecture and Design of the Material and Spatial Environment» program includes:

  • introduction to the basics of design engineering;
  • formation of knowledge about the basics of architectural and design elements of the material and spatial environment;
  • studying the basics of composition, color science, and coloristics in architecture and design of the material and spatial environment;
  • mastering various graphic techniques, practical methods, and techniques for presenting design solutions;
  • development of practical skills and abilities for designing and visualizing objects in the material and spatial environment.

Program curators:

Evseeva Olga Petrovna – Associate Professor of the Department of Industrial Design and Packaging at the Faculty of Management Technologies and Humanization of the Belarusian National Technical University, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor;

The program is implemented with the assistance of Belarusian National Technical University and Belarusian State Technological University.

Landscape design is the architectural and design design of undeveloped or sparsely developed territories using a wide range of plastic means of interpreting nature materials (methods of processing the earth’s surface (tablet), creating artificial relief forms (geoplastic), transforming vegetation forms and creating water devices, small landscape and architectural forms, equipment created for specific landscape settings, and landscape sculpture.

The Fundamentals of Landscape Design program includes:

  • familiarization with the historical stages of development and the main styles of landscape art, as well as modern trends in landscape design;
  • familiarization with the basic principles and methods of landscape design, the laws and means of composition in the design of landscape design objects;
  • studying the methods of using natural materials (vegetation, topography, and water) and elements of external landscaping in the creation of the material and spatial environment;
  • acquiring practical skills in organizing outdoor spaces using landscape design;
  • mastering various graphic and technical techniques and means of conveying design solutions in landscape design.
